🕒 Ready in: 15–20 minutes

🥣 Best for: Soups, Caesar salad, creamy pastas, or as a crunchy topping

📋 Ingredients (for about 2 cups of croutons)

  • 3–4 slices of bread (multigrain, white, sourdough, or any type) – slightly stale works best
  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (or 1 clove fresh garlic, finely minced)
  • ½ tsp dried herbs – like oregano, thyme, rosemary, or Italian seasoning
  • Optional: pinch of black pepper or chili flakes for heat
  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp grated Parmesan (for cheesy croutons)

🔪 Instructions

1. Prep the Bread

  • Cut the bread into small cubes – around ½ to 1 inch in size.
  • No need to remove crusts (unless you want a more uniform texture).

2. Season the Bread

  • In a bowl, toss bread cubes with olive oil or butter, salt, garlic, and herbs.
  • Make sure all the bread cubes are evenly coated.

3. Toast the Croutons

👉 Option 1: Oven-Baked (Best for Even Crispiness)
  • Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.
  • Spread the bread cubes in a single layer on a baking tray.
  • Bake for 10–15 minutes, flipping once halfway, until golden and crisp.
  • Keep an eye on them – they burn quickly in the last few minutes.
👉 Option 2: Pan-Fried (Quick Method)
  • Heat a nonstick pan over medium heat.
  • Add the seasoned bread cubes and toast, stirring frequently, for 6–8 minutes until crispy and golden.

🌟 Tips

  • Store cooled croutons in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
  • Use them on salads, soups, creamy pastas, or even crush them for a crunchy topping.
  • Try sweet croutons with cinnamon-sugar for dessert-style dishes!
